The quick first step needs to be developed through a particular set of taught patterns and instructions, no different to teaching a FT to a kid.You need to keep your hips in front of your driving foot, and a lot of kids, wrongly, lead with the front foot. Centre of gravity needs to lower for greater drive and better balance. We require good mobility in the ankles, to allow correct symmetry for shin and torso to align. All this needs to be done subconsciously, by adding more training patters during development.

Importantly we need to pick up in any deviation from what needs to be learned, as wrong patterns and habits are very hard to un-coach.
